Appointments
Our appointment system allows for times to be kept open to fit in any urgent problems. Urgent medical problems will be dealt with promptly.
 
When booking, please advise the staff if:
  • your problem IS urgent
  • you require a long appointment
  • you need a special medical examination
  • more than one family members needs to be seen.
 
If you cannot keep your appointment, please telephone us as soon as possible so that someone else can be seen.
 
Please attend the reception desk before and after seeing the doctor.
 
Telephoning your doctor
The doctors may take phone calls relating to you and your family’s health. However if they are seeing patients when you call, they may need to call you back.
 
Home visits
We encourage patients to come to the practice if at all possible so we can deliver optimal care with full access to practice facilities and equipment.
 
Regular patients who are unable to attend the surgery because of their debilitating condition will be referred to their usual doctor who will assess the request on its merits and make appropriate arrangements in each case.
 
After hours arrangements
In the event of an emergency, please call 000 for an ambulance. If you need to contact a doctor after hours, please ring 5672 4111.

Repeat prescriptions
Prescriptions for some medicines taken regularly may be obtained from your doctor but each request will be considered on an individual basis.
 
Agreement to issue a repeat prescription without consultation will not automatically mean this will be repeated at the next request. Requests can be made by phone, letter or calling at the surgery. Twenty-four hours notice should be given.
 
Results of medical tests
To obtain the results of any tests, please make a further appointment with your doctor.
 
Please ask the doctor at the time of your appointment, how long it will take for these results to be received by the clinic so that a convenient appointment time can be made.
 
To maintain confidentiality, results will not be given over the phone except in special circumstances.
 
Recall system
All patients are enrolled in our Recall Reminder System. This is a computer generated Reminder System.
 
Patients are consulted before their participation is confirmed.
 
National/State Reminder Systems/Registers
Patients are asked on registration whether or not they give permission to be part of these systems/registers. This is noted on the patients’ record.
 
Medical Records
We operate a computer based medical record system. Should any of your personal details, address, etc. change, please ask to have your records amended on arrival.
 
Please make sure that your Medicare card is valid and up to date.
 
Fees
South Gippsland Family Medicine bulk bills all Medicare enrolled patients. Non-Medicare items are privately charged and payment is expected on the day.
 
Each doctor sets his or her own fees independently.
 
Cash, cheque and eftpos (including credit card) will be accepted.
 
The Medicare rebate is determined by the Government and does not reflect the rising capital costs associated with medical practice.
 
Each doctor at this Centre runs his or her own practice and is not in partnership with the other practitioners.
 
Management of your personal Health Information
Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised persons involved in patient care.
 
Privacy Policy
South Gippsland Family Medicine takes its obligations under the Victorian Health Records Act 2001 and the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 seriously and will take all reasonable steps to comply and protect the privacy of the personal information that we hold.
 
Patient feedback
This Centre is keen to receive feedback from our patients on the services we provide. This is important to us to help improve our service and meet your needs.
 
A “Suggestion Box” is located in the Waiting Area should you wish to make use of it.
 
If you are unhappy with any aspect of the care you receive from this practice, we would like to know about it. Please feel free to talk to your doctor on any of our staff.
