Mirboo North Medical Centre

This is a busy small town practice situated on the Grand Ridge of the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland Victoria. It is a pleasant 2 hour drive from the GPO in Melbourne.  The area is stunningly beautiful with rolling green hills and stands of tall timber.  Wilson's Promontory, excellent coastal beaches and fishing is one hour south. One hour to the north is Thomson River valley, Walhalla township and Mount St Gwinear (cross country skiing).

This medical centre was established in 1990 by Dr Neal Finegan and was the first to be fully accredited in the South Gippsland region. We have an on-going commitment to best practice standards. The practice is fully equipped and capable of advanced life support. Our office staff are dedicated and caring.

Mirboo North Practice is operated by Dr Duleep Mendis, who began operation in the practice in July 2002.

Duleep has worked as a hospital medical officer in various disciplines of medicine, and also as a GP in many parts of Victoria, though mainly in Gippsland, including Bairnsdale, Traralgon, and Moe. Duleep has trained as a GP anesthetist and has special interests in the areas of mental health, family planning, obstetrics and shared care.

The practice hours are 9 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 9 until 12 noon Saturday.

We provide childhood and travel vaccinations and observe strict cold chain policy. The building is comfortably air-conditioned and gas heated.

We provide care to residents of Strzelecki House Hostel and Grandridge Lodge Nursing Home situated on either side of our clinic.

The practice does not provide anaesthetic nor obstetric services, although "shared care" is offered to pregnant women.  There are no acute care hospital facilities in Mirboo North.

Local public hospitals are Leongatha and Latrobe Regional Hospital, 20 minutes and half an hour respectively. There is also Maryvale Private Hospital in Morwell.

Gippsland Pathology Service has a collection centre within the Nursing Home in Brennan St. Bleeding times 9 am to 11 am Monday to Friday with the exception of public holidays. There is pathology courier pick-ups from the practice several times a day.

Radiological imaging is available at Leongatha Hospital or the Latrobe Valley (Morwell).
