Nurses working in General Practice are an integral part to the general practice team, enhancing the provision of primary care services, and valuable support to the team.

The benefits of general practice nurses have also been recognised by the Australian Government through the introduction of the Practice Nurse Incentive Program (PNIP).

The number of nurses working in South Gippsland General Practices has increased significantly in recent years as has their scope of practice.

The goals of the GPA South Gippsland Nursing in General Practice (NiGP) Program are to support the effective employment of practice nurses to:

  • relieve workforce pressure in general practice;
  • improve the prevention and management of chronic disease;
  • improve access to, and the quality and integration of patient care.

These goals will be met through the following objectives:

  • building the capacity of divisions to deliver support services for nursing in general practice;
  • brokering, coordinating and funding education and professional development opportunities for nurses in general practice in collaboration with divisions.

Nurses are welcome to become Associate Members of GPA South Gippsland. Membership benefits include free attendance to all CPD events.
